Technology: New V-Chip Licenses Coming to Market
Announced today is the newly signed agreement by Tri-Vision International Ltd and Sharp Corporation for V-Chip licensing. The previous deal expired at the end of March 2007.
The FCC - Federal Communications Commission, has mandated a series of phased-in rules crafted to ensure that the V-chip can fully respond to any rating system changes in digital television receiver products by March 1, 2007. This comes as part of the transition to a digital television broadcast system in the United States. Currently, Tri-Vision's open V-chip is the only known patented technology capable of accepting modified or new rating systems.
"We thank Sojitz and Sharp for the long and successful relationship between our three companies for these many years, and we look forward to working directly with Sharp. We anticipate concluding a new agreement shortly that will run through the term of our U.S. and Canadian patents", Tri-Vision President Toshinori Ikebe said of the discussions.
Some of the companies who are licensed the Canadian and/or American Patents are Sony, Hitachi, Samsung, JVC, Toshiba and Panasonic among others.
